Get ahead for the fall: Training to take before the semester begins
As the fall semester approaches, members of the Rutgers community have an opportunity to brush up on essential skills and resources before classes begin. From setting up course sites and reviewing best security practices to getting acquainted with the university’s technology services, the trainings below can help instructors, staff, and students start the semester prepared.
Canvas training
Instructors can find an orientation course, tutorial videos, and answers to common questions on the Getting Started in Canvas for Instructors page, along with a running list of upcoming training opportunities offered throughout the year.
Students can get familiar with the Canvas dashboard, assignments, and grades through the Getting Started in Canvas for Students page, which includes a self-paced student orientation course.

Accessing Adobe Creative Cloud
If your school or professional work involves design, video, or content creation, it’s worth exploring Rutgers’ access to Adobe Creative Cloud. Beyond the core applications, Adobe offers its own tutorials and courses, including AI-focused training on tools like Adobe Express, to help you get more out of the suite before you need to use it.
KnowBe4 cybersecurity training
The Information Security Office’s KnowBe4 awareness training modules cover phishing, password hygiene, and the IT security policies to keep the Rutgers community safe. The training is self-paced, accessible from any device, and you can even read about my own experience for what to expect.
Don’t forget LinkedIn Learning
Beyond AI-specific content, LinkedIn Learning is a great go-to resource for just about any skill you’re looking to build this semester, from project management to public speaking to technical skills. It’s free for the Rutgers community and worth bookmarking.
AI learning resources from Rutgers technology providers
Rutgers works with vendors like Google, Microsoft, Adobe, and Grammarly, all of which offer their own guidance on artificial intelligence. The AI learning resources from Rutgers technology providers page rounds up short courses and articles from each provider, covering everything from AI basics and generative AI fundamentals to responsible and ethical use. Most modules run under an hour, making them an easy way to build baseline AI literacy before the semester ramps up.
Deeper dive into AI through LinkedIn Learning
Looking for a deeper dive? The building AI skills page pulls together a handful of standout AI courses from LinkedIn Learning’s much larger catalog, grouped into three categories – AI 101, ethical and responsible AI, and creativity and productivity courses.
