Members of the Rutgers community have a variety of ways to buy desktops, laptops, tablets, and other devices.

Before you buy

Are you looking for computer hardware or software for a Rutgers department or unit? Be sure to contact your area’s business manager or IT staff to ensure you’re purchasing via the appropriate channel.

Computer Standards Program

The Computer Standards program standardizes computer hardware purchases for faculty and staff, including desktop computers, notebooks, tablets, displays, and accessories.

kite+key

Visit kite+key’s locations in Camden, Newark, and Piscataway for desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, and technology. For students, be sure to review the student computer recommendations.

RUware

RUware provides consulting services, procurement assistance, and follow-up on tech purchases for RBHS and Rutgers–Newark. Faculty/staff RBHS and Rutgers–Newark purchases must be made via RUWare.

Key tips for employee tech purchasing

Make sure you’re following Rutgers policy for tech purchases.

Consult with your department’s IT staff before you buy. They can help ensure you’re purchasing through the appropriate channels.
Get purchases pre-approved by your business manager or other departmental purchasing authority.
If software is available through the University Software Portal, get it through the software portal.
Check current university hardware standards before you purchase any new devices.

Student computer recommendations

The university offers a list of recommendations and technical specifications for student computer purchases, as well as related guidance. Systems are available from kite+key.

Software Portal

The university's software portal offers a wide range of software–from general-purpose apps like Microsoft Office to highly specialized academic programs. Many of the programs are free or discounted, and all are approved for use at Rutgers.
