The Office of IT Accessibility (OITA) offers accessibility trainings to the all members of the Rutgers community and the general public. Here is a listing of all the available trainings we offer, our customized trainings (only available to Rutgers community), and other external trainings that may be of interest.

Fall 2026 live virtual trainings

Monday, October 5 at 1pm
Learn how to make your Word documents accessible by designing your content with intent. Learn how users with disabilities navigate and interact with Word documents, and tackle common issues such as a lack of heading structure, color contrast problems, images without alt text, and more.

Thursday, October 22 at 11am
Learn how to make your PowerPoint presentations easier for everyone to use and understand. This training covers simple tips for things like adding alt text, choosing accessible colors, slide reading order, and using PowerPoint’s built-in accessibility tools.

Wednesday, November 18 at 1pm
PDFs are widely recognized, used around the world, and are often considered a standard for presenting electronic versions of text. PDFs are also very rigid, which can make them tricky to navigate for users with disabilities. Learn about common problems with inaccessible PDFs, how to fix them, and the finer points of making PDFs accessible!

Sign up to our Digital Accessibility Network group in Rutgers Connect. You can watch all of the recordings of our trainings on this site. In addition, we will be pushing out information about how to make content accessible to this group. We also communicate out regularly updated news and trainings available from our office.

With the recent Title II updates, many department are requiring students to submit accessible content, including but not limited to their electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) submissions. Check out our Student Resources under our Learning Paths Page.

All Rutgers staff, faculty, and students have free access to Deque University, a library of self-paced accessibility trainings. Subjects include the basics of accessibility and disability etiquette, web accessibility, document accessibility and remediation, and more.
