Same tool, new name: NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook

If you’re familiar with NotebookLM, you may notice a new name. The tool is now called Gemini Notebook.

The features you’ve come to rely on are still accessible, along with some new tools that Google’s integrated into the platform since Rutgers made it available last year. Use the tips below to re-acquaint yourself with this AI tool. As with the use of any AI tools, be sure to review Rutgers’ AI guidance—in particular, the section on academic integrity.

Choose your own resources
Unlike other AI tools, Gemini Notebook allows you to upload your own sources, including notes, websites, videos, audio files and more. That means fewer hallucinations and more targeted response, since the AI draws only on the resources you provide.

Start listening to your notes
If you struggle with motion sickness on buses or trains and can’t review your notes, or simply prefer video and audio resources, Gemini Notebook can help. It transforms your sources and notebooks into video or audio summaries, so you can study comfortably wherever you go.

Quiz yourself
Did you know that Gemini Notebook can help you create FAQs, quizzes, flashcards, and mind maps? You can use its image generation capabilities to help you practice concepts, review material and test your knowledge.

Research, but deeper
At the end of 2025, Google added its Deep Research capability to Gemini Notebook, allowing users to perform detailed analysis on uploaded materials or information found online. Users can incorporate reports and their sources into their notebooks, and later add additional sources to build a comprehensive, customized knowledge base.
