Desktop Standards Group

Committee Charter

The Desktop Standards Group is a standing committee, charged with developing and implementing standards for desktop and mobile IT equipment for use at Rutgers University.

Our Goals

  • To develop, and regularly update, standards for desktop and mobile computing equipment at Rutgers University
    • Enhance the university’s security posture
    • Provide greater consistency in operating systems and applications across university units
  • To work with vendors to leverage the purchasing power of Rutgers University for the benefit of all units, large and small, in order to achieve standardized pricing based on overall university purchasing volume.
  • Provide hardware acquisition through purchase and leasing options
  • Continue existing vendor relationships with Dell, HP and Lenovo, while adding better Apple acquisition options and pricing through Kite+Key, The Rutgers Technology Store
  • Incorporate standardized software images, pre-installed on equipment ordered through the program
  • Track the efficacy of the program through standardized collection of data and reporting mechanisms
  • Increase communications regarding the availability of the program to university units
