October marks the 23rd annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a joint effort between the government and others to increase cybersecurity awareness and knowledge. Join Rutgers cybersecurity professionals at the following in-person and virtual events throughout the month.

Test your cybersecurity knowledge
Help Rutgers bring home a win during the Big Ten Academic Alliance’s (BTAA) cyber awareness competition at 1:00 p.m. on October 1. This game show-style event is meant to test participants’ online safety skills in a fast, friendly, school-against-school competition. You’ll need to register for the event with your Rutgers email address and insert “Rutgers University” as your organization in order to participate.

Interested in other cybersecurity events? The BTAA offers several workshops, panels, and other events throughout October. Visit the BTAA webpage for information and event registration.

Follow the clues. Find the answers
Think you’ve got what it takes to spot cyber threats? Join the Office of Information Technology’s online cybersecurity scavenger hunt this October. Follow along on the Rutgers IT Facebook or Twitter or access the hunt anytime through this Microsoft Form.

Meet your cybersecurity experts
Meet the experts from Rutgers Information Technology Governance, Risk and Compliance Office at their table at the Rutgers campus benefits fairs. Please visit the University Human Resources’ Open Enrollment webpage for more information.

Learn about cybersecurity requirements and research compliance
Join Rutgers’ Mike DiLalo, from the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine, and experts from the Regulated Research Community of Practice (RRCoP) and Educause as they discuss federal cybersecurity requirements surrounding research projects. During this October 29 virtual session, they’ll present a plain-language introduction to the requirements, where federal guidance stands today, and how research compliance requirements relate to IT environments.
