Introducing our new Associate Vice President of Research Computing

The following email was sent to Rutgers IT staff on April 20, 2026.

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Juan Perin has been appointed the new Associate Vice President of Research Computing within the Office of Advanced Research Computing in the Office of Information Technology. This appointment reflects Rutgers’ continued commitment to strengthening and expanding the university’s research capabilities as research becomes increasingly data-driven, computation-intensive, and collaborative across disciplines.

Juan brings more than 20 years of experience in high-performance research computing, with a demonstrated track record of leading complex research computing operations and partnering closely with faculty, researchers, and institutional stakeholders. He also possesses deep expertise in artificial intelligence and modern cloud-based research environments, as well as healthcare and clinical data, which is especially valuable given Rutgers’ growing emphasis on translational research, clinical partnerships, and data-intensive health initiatives.

Juan comes to Rutgers having worked in hyper-scale environments on strategic research computing partnerships with leading academic and research institutions. He previously served in Senior Director for Research computing and HPC at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, leading comprehensive technical strategy and computing infrastructure for clinical and non-clinical cancer research. He holds certificates and training from the Wharton School and MIT in strategic leadership, financial management for research organizations, and big data. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and computer science from Saint Joseph’s University and a master’s degree in bioinformatics from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

I know he is eager to develop relationships within the Office of Advanced Research Computing, the Office of Information Technology, and Rutgers as a whole, so please join me in welcoming him to the university.

Thank you,
Ellen Law
Vice President, Enterprise Applications and Research Computing
