Pop-up Help Desk to provide tech support during New Brunswick move-in

With the sun beginning to set on the summer of 2023, Rutgers is preparing to welcome students back to campus for the Fall semester. Moving into your dorm room for the first time can be overwhelming, especially for first-year students. Then you get to that point where all your belongings have been moved into your room, you’ve hugged your parents goodbye, and now you want to start setting up your smart devices, but maybe you don’t know how.

That’s where the Office of Information Technology (OIT) comes in. Between Tuesday, August 29, and Thursday, August 31, OIT pop-up Help Desks will be set up on all Rutgers–New Brunswick campuses in close proximity to first-year dormitories on move-in days. You can access the pop-up Help Desk schedule and locations through the Rutgers IT knowledge base.

Student OIT Help Desk and support staff will be available to help you register your consoles, smart TVs, and other smart devices to RUWireless (Rutgers’ Wi-Fi network), so you can always stay connected in your new home during the school year.

“With Help Desk student workers and support staff members on-site during move-in day, students can get immediate support without waiting for technical assistance,” says Ana Verma, director of information technology. “The pop-up Help Desk allows students to get technical assistance in real time as they settle into their new space and we can help alleviate some pre-semester jitters.”

The pop-up Help Desk is available for more than just setting up Wi-Fi devices. Students can get help with troubleshooting a variety of tech issues, such as setting up two-step login with Duo on personal devices to protect information online.

During move-in, there will be signage posted guiding first-year students to the pop-up Help Desk, and support staff members will be in matching shirts so you can easily spot someone to help with whatever tech assistance you may need. If you happen to miss the pop-up Help Desk during move-in days, you can always visit your local computer lab or visit/call the OIT Help Desk to make sure your tech is ready to go for the new school year.
