Explore courses designed to advance your understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) through a variety of professional development opportunities, including certification and targeted microcredentials, and earn digital badges to showcase your achievements.

The Service Management Office’s training and professional development program aims to improve Rutgers’ IT staff’s knowledge, skills, and practices in effectively managing and delivering IT services. Our programs align with industry frameworks, like ITIL® 4 (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), and are tailored to the university’s specific needs. Our mission is to: 

  • Improve IT service delivery and user satisfaction.
  • Ensure consistent, efficient IT processes across all of Rutgers.
  • Align IT services with the university’s IT strategic objectives.

Training/workshops are available:

  • At our office or another university location.
  • Virtually (note that not all offerings are available virtually).
  • Online through a web-based training on the RULearning.

Microcredentials and certification

IT Service Management Fundamentals Badge

The Rutgers ITSM Fundamentals course provides learners with an understanding of IT Service Management concepts and how they can be applied in an operational environment.

This workshop creates an opportunity for day-to-day operational improvement and collaboration with other ITSM practitioners in their specific practice area.

ITIL4 Foundation and Certification

The ITIL4 Foundation training and certification is for staff interested in obtaining their ITIL4 Certification. This course is designed as an introduction to the ITIL4 framework and theory. The ITIL4 Foundation training enables candidates to look at ITSM through an end-to-end operating model for the creation, delivery, and continual improvement of tech-enabled products and services. This training includes an ITSM simulation, which provides participants with the opportunity to directly apply the ITIL4 principles in an operational environment.

  • No pre-requisite is required.
  • The course is delivered in person over 4 days.
  • 12 learners are allowed per class.
  • PeopleCert certification exam is proctored during the course.
  • Certification is good for 3 years.
  • PeopleCert offers options for maintaining certification.
  • 20 Professional Development Units are required each year to maintain certification.
