Information technology and project management professionals from across the university reviewed the project management tools available at Rutgers and reported on the strengths and weaknesses of each.

Microsoft Planner

This service, accessed via browser or mobile app, is a simple, task-management application that is already available at Rutgers through Office 365 at no additional cost.

Microsoft Project Online

This service provides project management capabilities for planning, prioritizing, and managing projects and project portfolios and can be accessed on almost any device.

Smartsheet

This flexible and scalable cloud-based platform allows organizations to manage multiple business activities through planning, tracking, collaboration, and automation features.

Project management tool report and comparison

This report, prepared by information technology and project management professionals from across the university, compares the capacities of three project management tools available at Rutgers. Two of the tools, Microsoft Project Online and Smartsheet, provide for a wide range of project management needs. Microsoft Planner provides a more limited range of functionality, but it is particularly easy to use.
