The PMO’s approach
The PMO manages individual projects and larger project portfolios, ensuring all initiatives support the university’s strategic direction.
The PMO has developed project management methodologies to meet various project management needs.
Industry accepted project management standards and system development lifecycle (SDLC) processes are incorporated.
Methods are meant to be scaled to fit the size, complexity, and security classification of your project.
Project managers use these methods to meet or exceed expectations by delivering projects on time, within scope and budget.
Project management methodologies and resources
Waterfall
The Waterfall methodology is a linear approach to project management that requires each phase to be completed before moving on to the next. Using Waterfall as a guide, the Project Management Office within the Office of Information Technology provides a common set of guidelines, techniques, and templates used to manage an application-related project.
Agile
The Agile methodology is another project management approach that emphasizes continuous collaboration and improvement. Teams follow an ongoing cycle of planning, executing, and evaluating. The OIT PMO has developed an overview document on the Agile framework, concentrating on how it may best serve the needs of the Rutgers community.
Project Management Institute
The Project Management Institute (PMI) is a professional organization for project management. PMI's services include standards development, research, education, publication, networking opportunities in local chapters, hosting conferences and training seminars, and providing certification in project management.
