Data Warehouse FAQ
What is the Data Warehouse?
The Data Warehouse serves as a central repository for enterprise data at Rutgers. Various enterprise applications collect and store information that gets fed into the Data Warehouse. This data can be used in data feeds, integrations, reports, and dashboards.
How do I access the data in the Data Warehouse?
A member of the Rutgers community may be granted access to data housed in the Data Warehouse through various methods. In some cases, they may request access to existing reports or dashboards residing on the Reporting Hub. In other cases, data sources from the Rutgers Data Warehouse may be available via an analytics tool, such as Tableau or Oracle Analytics. There are still other cases where system-to-system data integrations are necessary through file extracts and transfers. These cases all require approval in a process that can be initiated by submitting a data service request.
Can I request a new view to develop reports and dashboards for my department?
If the data owners grant permission to create a new view, the data warehouse team can work with you to develop it and feed the data to the appropriate application. Submit a data service request (DSR) with an exact list of the data points to be included in the new view.
How can I add new data to the Data Warehouse?
Submit a data service request (DSR) explaining the business purpose of feeding this data to the Data Warehouse. Then, a representative from the OIT data warehouse team will contact you for further steps.
