Additional guidance and recommendations
Laptops recommended
A laptop (not desktop) is recommended as a student’s primary computer. Students considering Windows computers with ARM-based processors should note they have limited compatibility with many applications, including research and productivity tools. When in doubt, check with your school.
Tablets and Chromebooks
The ease of use and portability of Chromebooks and tablets, such as the iPad, make them an attractive option for students. Though not recommended as a primary computer, they can be beneficial to supplement a student’s educational experience.
Consider a warranty upgrade
Standard warranties typically provide one year of coverage and require the device to be returned for repair. Consider upgrading for on-site service, accidental damage protection, and a term covering the time to your degree.
