Completed
The Office of Information Technology has completed its work on a series of capacity upgrades to the Rutgers network:
- Increased connectivity by adding 100GB connections on major links among Rutgers–Camden, Rutgers–Newark, and Rutgers–New Brunswick
- Restructured wireless connectivity at Rutgers University–New Brunswick to improve capacity and performance, and to distribute load more efficiently
- Made adjustments in the handling of collaborative voice and video traffic to improve performance of Skype, Webex, and other collaborative tools
- Doubled the capacity of bandwidth to the Hill Data Center
- Adjusted firewall configuration to maximize available resources and improve the performance for Rutgers Private Internet Protocol (IP) networks connecting to the internet
We thank you for your patience as we made these improvements.
Update
The Office of Information Technology continues its series of upgrades to the Rutgers network to address the network slowdowns.
Staff members are working closely with our vendor community to make adjustments and add capacity where applicable. Users may experience network degradation to services provided by Google, Microsoft (Rutgers Connect and Microsoft Azure), Apple, Yahoo, Webex, and Amazon (including Amazon Web Services and third-party services hosted in AWS).
OIT will be monitoring the network throughout the holiday and the subsequent week.
Please continue to report network issues to the Network Operations Center (NOC) through our online portal (select the Report a Network Problem option).
Please note that internal communications within the Rutgers network are not impacted. Any issues should be reported via the online portal above.
We thank you for your cooperation and patience.

In Progress
A capacity issue with the Rutgers network is causing a slowdown in a variety of IT services. To improve the issue, Rutgers will begin the process of adjusting network traffic at 2:45 p.m. today. This work may cause sporadic disruptions in some non-business IT services (Apple, Facebook, Netflix) to alleviate traffic on the network.
