Google services are a large part of our everyday tech life and Rutgers offers ScarletMail as an email option within ScarletApps, the Rutgers implementation of Google Workspace for Education. Here are a few recommended effective tools and features within ScarletMail.
Never miss another email
In today’s society, where everything is at our fingertips, having email on mobile devices ensures we have access to important information on-the-go. ScarletMail can easily be setup for your mobile device, whether it is an iOS or an Android.
Did you know another feature of ScarletMail is the ability to use it offline? You can read, search, and respond to your Gmail messages even when you aren’t connected to the Internet. This ensures you can continue your work any time, even without a network connection. Currently, this feature is available for use on the Google Chrome browser only.
Efficiency is key
Gmail comes loaded with features to enhance your productivity.
- Within the web client version, you can enable the Smart Compose feature that is powered by machine learning and will offer suggestions as you type.
- The Smart Reply feature, available on the web and Android/iOS, saves you time when replying to emails by suggesting quick responses to your messages.
- If you are a savvy typist, you may find the custom keyboard shortcuts option right up your alley as it can map out shortcuts to allow you to operate your inbox entirely through your keyboard.
Personalize your inbox to aesthetic perfection
Add your own personal touch to your ScarletMail account by customizing it with a theme. The Themes feature can be found in the ScarletMail settings and allows for the setting of a background image. If you can’t find a theme you like, ScarletMail also lets you upload one of your own photos as a background image. As an added bonus, you can also choose from light or dark text backgrounds based on your preference.
Maintaining professionalism through your emails
Many of us use ScarletMail for professional purposes, but sometimes the inbox feels like it is lacking a professional feel. Luckily, you can configure alias addresses to make a more front-facing personalized email address rather than your generic ScarletMail address. This offers a more professional look for networking opportunities. Once you have your personalized alias configured, you can set up a custom signature for each of your alias addresses through the Settings.
