Setting up ScarletMail to use your official Rutgers email address


When a ScarletMail account is created, the default email address the account will send mail from is in the format netid@scarletmail.rutgers.edu. This is referred to as your account's Primary Address. You may prefer to change your primary address to a personalized email address, example: john.doe@rutgers.edu. Your ScarletMail account can only be configured for one primary address at a time. You can change and update this address at any time, however, you will only be able to send email from your primary address.

To change your primary address for ScarletMail please follow the directions below. Changes may take up to 2 hours to take effect.

  1. Go to the NetID Management page and click on Manage Email Addresses.
  2. Log in with your NetID and NetID password.
  3. Scroll down to the Rutgers ScarletMail (Gmail) Account Information section and click the edit (red pencil) icon.

  4. Click the dropdown and your available personalized email addresses will be shown. Choose a new primary Email Address from the drop-down box.

  5. Click Update.
  6. ScarletMail will automatically update your default address and automatically start sending mail from the primary address you selected.
