Instructure (the parent company of Canvas) reported that Canvas is now accessible to users. AWS reported that the issue has been resolved. Instructure (the parent company of Canvas) is now reporting that they are in the process of making Canvas accessible to users affected by the global Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage. AWS reports that its services are returning to normal operations. The outage affected numerous IT services, and some may still be recovering. OIT is continuing to monitor the situation, and additional updates can be found on the AWS status page as well as the Instructure status page for Canvas.

AWS is reporting that they are seeing improvement across many services impacted by today’s incident, and they are continuing work to resolve the ongoing issues. Canvas, along with other university services, may continue to be impacted by the incident. Canvas is reporting that the company continues to work with AWS about Canvas and other products being down. AWS is still trying to resolve this morning’s major incident, which is causing error messages on Canvas, and other university services such as Kaltura, Smartsheet, Adobe Creative Cloud, Cisco Secure Endpoint, and ArcGIS to be impacted. Monitoring
A major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage began this morning, Monday, October 20, affecting numerous services worldwide. The outage caused increased error messages and disrupted the use of various applications like Canvas, Zoom, and Grammarly. While AWS has reported that the issues are resolving, some university systems may still be impacted by this outage. The Office of Information Technology will continue to monitor the situation.
