The power of a resilient network and cybersecurity
Rutgers Next-Gen Network = speed and resilience
The university is now engaged in a multi-year effort, across Rutgers locations, to develop a faster, more resilient Rutgers network. It’s a big effort, and one that’s key to supporting next-generation innovations in teaching, learning, and research.
Improving and expanding Wi-Fi
Replacing 20-year-old switches to enhance reliability
Expanding or rerouting segments of fiber optic cable for resiliency and speed
Improving public safety by replacing end-of-life blue light phones
Enabling enhanced monitoring of remote locations to fix and address network outages
Data centers at Rutgers: Safeguarding assets and hosting critical services for the university
Rutgers faculty, students and staff produce enough data to occupy
7 geographically distributed data centers
that run 24/7, all to ensure that the university’s valuable intellectual property is on-hand when community members need it.
Cybersecurity matters
Educating the Rutgers community
Staying secure is everyone’s responsibility, and this means training and education for the Rutgers community. Compliance training for the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) concluded with 79% completion rates. Meanwhile, pilot programs for cybersecurity awareness training and phishing simulations have been introduced, with more to come. Learn more about compliance and training.
Your hub for information security services and info
The Information Security website is a one-stop shop for information about IT security policy, staff compliance training, risk management, and risk assessments. Additional details are constantly being added as services expand.
Spreading the word on Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Cybersecurity education happens year-round, but it really kicks into gear for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. At Rutgers, we spread the word with infographics, social posts, videos, and lots more.
Virtual infrastructure provides tangible benefits
Faster provisioning and reductions in hardware and power consumption are just a few advantages of using virtual infrastructure from the Office of Information Technology (OIT), rather than purchasing and managing your own. The benefits of OIT’s server systems include:
- scale securely
- load-balancing
- backup and restore capabilities
- network monitoring and security
- savings from economies of scale and reduced power consumption
