Active direct deposit phishing threat

Notification

July 15, 2025 2:48 pm

The Office of Information Technology’s Information Security Office (ISO) is aware of an active direct deposit phishing campaign targeting members of the Rutgers community. The email may include Rutgers branding and originate from an @rutgers.edu or an external email address, and it encourages recipients to view a salary adjustment letter or similar document through a secure link. After clicking the link, users will be prompted to enter their username, password, and banking information into a Google Form, where it is then used to change direct deposit information.

We strongly advise users NOT to accept random Duo pushes. If users receive an email matching this description or a random Duo push, they should follow the instructions for reporting to abuse@rutgers.edu outlined on this page. If users have questions regarding this information, they should contact the ISO at info_security@oit.rutgers.edu.

If you are experiencing any issues not listed here, please contact the OIT Help Desk at 848-445-HELP (4357) or send a message to help@oit.rutgers.edu.
