Rutgers VPN will be offline briefly to expand capacity

Completed

March 18, 2020 6:48 pm

The emergency upgrade to expand capacity of the Rutgers Virtual Private Network (VPN) has been completed.

Scheduled

March 18, 2020 4:32 pm

The Rutgers Virtual Private Network (VPN) will go offline at 6:30 p.m. tonight for approximately 15 minutes.

How will this affect me?
Any existing VPN connections will be terminated when the work begins and will need to be re-established. Though the downtime is expected to last about 15 minutes, the Office of Information Technology is allotting one hour as part of this emergency upgrade to expand capacity.

Why is this happening?
The work, which is the first of two planned upgrades, will ensure that the network can provide fast, secure and immediate connections, even during the busiest times of day, both for existing users and those who migrate from the Pulse and RBHS VPNs during this time of greatly increased usage. This is an emergency maintenance by the Security Operations Center related to remote support for the COVID-19 outbreak.
