New semester, new projects, new goals. As the fall semester approaches, it’s easy to forget which tools are available to help with your daily work. Faculty and staff, utilize the technology reminders below to make the most of your time this semester, whether you’re coordinating research, managing courses, supporting students, or something else.
Bring the office anywhere
Faculty and staff can install Microsoft Office apps, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, on up to 20 devices. This includes tablets, phones, and personal computers with a limit of five installations per operating system. It’s recommended that you contact your department’s IT support staff for Rutgers-owned devices, as each department may have its own policies regarding software installations on these machines.
Time for a new outlook
Setting up the Outlook app for Rutgers Connect email on your phone requires installing Microsoft InTune. Faculty and staff who handle Personal Health Information should review the mobile device management policy for Rutgers Health Sciences before installing Outlook on their phones.
Find campus resources with myRutgers
Looking for campus news, bus schedules, dining or other campus information if you’re not in your usual location? myRutgers provides this information – including parking details and real-time bus information—in one convenient spot. It can be accessed via the online portal or downloaded as a mobile app on both Apple and Android devices by visiting each manufacturer’s app store.
Access Rutgers resources from home
While many Rutgers resources are available from anywhere, journal access, research computing, and electronic health records require a VPN to be accessed when you’re off campus. You’ll need to activate the VPN service and download the VPN software in order to connect to VPN.
Speed up document signatures
DocuSign accounts are available to staff in any Rutgers department and include real-time document tracking and email routing. Self-paced training and support tutorials can help those who are new to the software learn more about its features.
Wi-Fi wherever you roam
Wi-Fi may not seem like a productivity app initially; however, it’s the backbone that allows other apps to work. RUWireless Secure can be set up on PCs, Macs, Linux, and Android devices for those who have a NetID. Those who do not have a NetID or those onboarding to RUWireless Secure should connect to RUWireless for internet access. Outside of Rutgers, faculty and staff can also take advantage of eduroam for secure Wi-Fi access at participating colleges and universities.
