Fall into good email habits with Rutgers Connect

As a faculty or staff member, having to manage your work emails and organize your appointments everyday makes it essential to keep on top of your inbox and reference the tools that are available to you. Here are some ways to fall into good email habits with Rutgers Connect.

Email on the go

Today, people tend to use their cell phones or tablets more than their computers. Having your email on your mobile device ensures that you are informed of new emails as soon as they arrive.

Before you are able to access your Rutgers Connect account on your phone, you will have to provision your device. This is necessary to utilize applications like Rutgers Connect that contain either Protected Health Information (PHI) or work-related information in emails.

To set up Microsoft Intune Company Portal for Rutgers Connect, view the Android or iOS instructions depending on which type of mobile device you have.

Additionally, you can download the Outlook mobile app, which allows you to access your email, calendar, files, contacts, and Office apps in one place on your mobile device. Visit the Microsoft support webpage for more information.

Synchronizing your events

A lot of emails can contain important upcoming events and meetings. Plan out your days correctly by adding these items into your email calendar right away. Having additional notifications and reminders are always helpful. Check out the calendar settings of your Rutgers Connect account or the Rutgers Connect Calendar FAQ for additional details.

Making to-do lists

Microsoft To-Do can also assist with organizing your projects and/or assignments that come through via email. The app lets you create to-do items, assign due dates to them, and categorize your tasks with lists. To-Do is pleasant to use and with the security provided by Rutgers Connect (based on the Office 365 suite from Microsoft), it’s also suitable for tasks requiring HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance.

Focusing on time management

Instituting good time management is key to getting things done. Rutgers Connect users now have access to a new Outlook feature providing insight into personal productivity in the workplace. The MyAnalytics dashboard is a time management tool that displays the amount of time that users spend working in Outlook in order to showcase their work patterns, email use, meeting habits, most-used apps, and more.

Organizing your contacts

Looking for an old contact to correspond with via email? In other personal or professional email accounts, you may have already developed a list of Contacts. Fortunately, you can import an old list of Contacts from previous email providers and import them into Rutgers Connect.
