Register gaming consoles and smart devices in your dorm with student self-service portal

There’s nothing better than returning to your dorm after a long day of classes, taking off your backpack, and kicking up your feet with your favorite smart device. When you’re a student who lives on campus, your dorm is your home away from home, so tailor it to your R&R needs as soon as you move in by connecting all your favorite gaming consoles, smart devices, and more in your residence hall.

The ResNet Device Registration portal allows you to connect your smart devices without having to make a call to the OIT Help Desk. Save time and energy in just a few easy steps.

What devices are supported?
The permitted devices include gaming consoles, video streaming devices, desktops without wireless, and some smart home devices. For more information on the devices permitted in residence halls along with instructions on how to get connected, view this how-to article.

What if I have devices that I previously connected in a residence hall?
If you already connected these devices through the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Help Desk before August 1, you will need to follow these directions to register your devices again when you return to campus.

How can I connect multiple devices from one Ethernet port?
If you would like to use one Ethernet port for multiple devices, you will need to purchase a network switch, like this one from kite+key. This will allow you to share that connection and does not require any special steps for set up. Routers are no longer permitted in Rutgers residence halls.

Does this have any effect on how I connect my phone, tablet, or laptop?
There is no change when connecting your phone, tablet, or laptop. For these devices, you should still connect to RUWireless Secure by following the steps outlined in this how-to article.

If you have problems connecting your devices, please reach out to the OIT Help Desk.
