Zoom Webinars

What is a Zoom Webinar?

Zoom Video Webinar allows you to broadcast a Zoom meeting to view-only attendees. As the host or a panelist, you can share your screen, video, and audio in a webinar, while attendees can use the chat or question and answer options to interact with the host and panelists.

Webinars can require preregistration—with the option for the host to add custom registration questions—or registration can be turned off for attendees to join by simply clicking a link at the time of the webinar. Webinars can be held once, can reoccur in a series, or can be the same session held multiple times.

Webinars do not support breakout rooms by default. A separate Events or Sessions license would need to be purchased, in advance, for an account to utilize breakout rooms on a Webinar.

What is the difference between a Zoom Meeting and a Zoom Webinar?

 MeetingWebinar
DescriptionZoom meetings are ideal for hosting more interactive sessions where you’ll want to have lots of audience participation or break your session into smaller groups.Think of webinars like a virtual lecture hall or auditorium. Webinars are ideal for large audiences or events that are open to the public. Typically, webinar attendees do not interact with one another. Though Zoom provides options for you to get more social with your attendees, your average webinar has one or a few people speaking to an audience.
Best used forSmall to large groups (2+ participants) for personal meetings, sales meetings, training sessionsLarge events and public broadcasts (50+ attendees) such as town halls, quarterly updates, and educational lectures

Who is eligible for a Zoom Webinar license?

Zoom Webinar licenses can be assigned to Zoom Service Accounts. Service accounts allow multiple users the ability to access recordings and registration information related to your Zoom Webinars. Faculty, staff members and guests can contact their Rutgers Connect Domain Administrator. Students can work with a faculty member to be granted access to a Zoom Service Account in order to schedule webinars.

How do I request a Webinar License?

We currently offer three different size Webinar Licenses:

You can request a Zoom Service Account from your Rutgers Connect Domain Administrator. This is automatically provisioned with a Webinar 1000 license.

Due to the limited quantity of licenses, we are unable to permanently assign the Webinar 3000 and Webinar 10,000 licenses. If you are in need of the larger license, please use the following Bookings Calendar to submit a request to use the larger license. We will increase your Webinar capacity on the day of your event.

Please note that the Webinar License increase will not affect the attendee link or any settings you have already set on a Webinar. You will be able to schedule an event with an expected large attendee turnout with any sized Webinar license. On the day of the event, the Webinar increase will only affect how many attendees can join your Webinar, no other changes should be noticed.

Please note that Webinar license usage will be checked periodically. If you do not actively use the Webinar license, it will be removed from your account.
