Our Virtual Labs now use Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). It offers several key benefits:

• Capacity for unlimited simultaneous usage
• Local storage options
• Access to some programs that cannot be licensed for physical labs
• Access to the Rutgers Mobility Printer Queues

Students, faculty, and staff and users with a guest role can now utilize the OIT virtual computer labs PCs – and all Windows applications provided in the general use labs – from any location at any time.

Available applications can be found on the Application List.

How to connect to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)

There are several ways to connect to WVD depending on your device. We suggest using the web client for ease and convenience. You can find instructions below:

• Accessing Azure Virtual Desktop with the macOS client
• Accessing Azure Virtual Desktop with the Windows client
• Accessing Azure Virtual Desktop with the iOS client
• Accessing Azure Virtual Desktop with the web client

Printing on Campus

Azure Virtual Desktop has access to the Mobility print queue, which enables you to print a job from your session and release the print job at any Papercut enabled print release station

1. Open the file you want to print.
2. Chose File > Print.
3. Choose either oit_wvd_bw_q for black and white or oit_wvd_color_q for color prints.
   
   

4. Release the job at a print station.

Printing Locally

To print a file from Azure Virtual Desktop to your local computer follow the steps below

1. Open the file you want to print.
2. Choose File > Print.
3. Choose Remote Desktop Virtual Printer from the Select Printer options.
   
   
   
   
4. You will see a message in the upper right hand corner stating the print job has started.
   
   
   
   
5. Once the file is downloaded, it will pop up in the bottom left-hand corner of your browser.

Saving Files

To save files, you will need to upload them to a cloud storage solution, as remote file saving is disabled.

We suggest that users save their files to OneDrive, part of your Rutgers Connect account. Box and your files in ScarletApps are also available.
