Adding, removing and renaming devices for two-step login with Duo


Have a new phone? Want to add a security key? You can easily add new devices right from the Duo Prompt.

Note: If you need to add hardware token, please follow the directions on the hardware token information page. If you would like to use Touch ID, please follow the direction on the Touch ID information page.

Enroll a New Device

  1. On your computer, go to the Two-factor authentication set-up and management page. Enter your NetID username and password to login.
  2. Click the Other options link on the authentication page to view your list of available authentication methods.

  3. Select the Manage devices choice at the end of the list to enter the device management portal.

  4. Choose an authentication method and complete two-factor authentication to begin adding your new device.
    • If you're adding a new device to replace one that you previously activated for Duo Push, don't select the Duo Push authentication method on this page unless you still have the original device.
    • If you don't have the original device, but you have a new device with the same phone number, then you can authenticate with a phone call or SMS passcode.
    • You can't add a new device from this page if you do not have access to any of your previously enrolled authentication devices; you'll need to contact the Help Desk for assistance.
  5. After approving a Duo authentication request, you can see all your registered devices in the device management portal. Click Add a device to begin.

  6. Proceed with the device enrollment process as shown in the initial Enrollment Guide

Change Device Name

  1. On your computer, go to the Two-factor authentication set-up and management page. Enter your NetID username and password to login.
  2. Click the Other options link on the authentication page to view your list of available authentication methods.

  4. Choose an authentication method and complete two-factor authentication.
  5. After approving the Duo authentication request, you can see all your registered devices in the device management portal.

  6. Click Edit and then Rename to give a device a new name to help you identify it. This new name shows up in the verification method list and on the authentication page when you log in with Duo to make it easier for you to identify which device you're using. Hardware tokens can't be renamed.

Remove a Device

  1. On your computer, go to the Two-factor authentication set-up and management page. Enter your NetID username and password to login.

  4. Choose an authentication method and complete two-factor authentication.
  5. After approving the Duo authentication request, you can see all your registered devices in the device management portal.

  6. To delete a device, click Edit and then Remove. You'll be able to confirm that you want to remove this device before deleting it. Once deleted, a verification device can't be restored, but if you still have the device available you can add it again. You can't delete your only identity verification device.
