How is Duo used in places such as exam rooms that forbid mobile phones?

Students may need to log into Duo during exams and other testing situations. Instructors and students should be aware of this requirement and plan for this in advance. This article provides guidance for students and instructors for these situations.

If you are a student who is in a testing facility that does not allow smart devices, you may choose to have one of the following alternative authentication methods:

  1. Obtain a single-use passcode by opening the Duo mobile app and selecting Show next to the hidden passcode. You will be able to use this code to login by selecting Other options and then Duo mobile passcode when you attempt to login.
  2. Obtain a hardware token. Prior to your exam, you may purchase a hardware token from the software portal. Once you have received your hardware token you can follow the hardware token enrollment steps and then log in with a hardware token

If you are an instructor who has students using a testing facility that does not allow smart devices, please be aware that students may need to have a passcode or a hardware token in order to login.
