How do I use an SMS passcode with Duo?

You’re able to generate a text message passcode to use to verify your identity. After successful authentication using NetID and password, you will see the Duo two-factor authentication page.

  1. Choose the Send text message passcode option.
  2. When you land on the text message page, it will show that a text message was just sent to you with a passcode. When you receive the message, enter that passcode into the space provided and click Verify.
  3. If you did not receive the code or the code does not work, please select Send a new passcode.
  4. A new passcode will be sent to your smart device.

Note: These are one-time use codes which become invalid once used. If you select Send a new passcode multiple times, only the most recent passcode will remain valid. SMS text messages and voice call authentications made to your mobile phone are billed by your carrier in the same way that any other text message or call would. Rutgers will not reimburse you for these charges.
