From the main IT website, choose to view the dashboard and &#8220;<strong>Alerts&#8221;<\/strong> will be listed on the left hand navigation bar.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Adding a new Alert<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Slack updates<\/strong>: If you revise an existing alert by either changing the &#8220;Update Status Type&#8221; field or the &#8220;Update Description&#8221; field, a new Slack will not be broadcast to the channel.<\/p>\n<p>From the dashboard, visit &#8220;<strong>Alerts&#8221;<\/strong> &gt; &#8220;<strong>Add new&#8221;<\/strong> and enter a title for the alert.<\/p>\n<p>Next select the &#8220;<strong>Add Alert Update&#8221;<\/strong> button, which allows you to create the first item in the alert.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-663\" src=\"\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/alerts-1024x461.png\" alt=\"alerts screen graphic\" width=\"1024\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/it.rutgers.edu\/rutgers-it-site-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/alerts-1024x461.png 1024w, https:\/\/it.rutgers.edu\/rutgers-it-site-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/alerts-300x135.png 300w, https:\/\/it.rutgers.edu\/rutgers-it-site-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/alerts-768x346.png 768w, https:\/\/it.rutgers.edu\/rutgers-it-site-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/alerts-1080x486.png 1080w, https:\/\/it.rutgers.edu\/rutgers-it-site-documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2019\/10\/alerts.png 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From here, do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter &#8220;<strong>Time of Update<\/strong>.&#8221; You can also choose &#8220;<strong>Now.&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Enter &#8220;<strong>Status Type&#8221;<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; If this is an outage, use Identified or Investigating as the status type for the first alert item.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; If this is a planned maintenance, use Scheduled as the status type for the first alert item.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter &#8220;<strong>Description<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Change &#8220;Published&#8221; date in the &#8220;Publish&#8221; sidebar to the date\/time of the start of the alert.<\/li>\n<li>Publish when finalized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Adding new status updates to existing alerts<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>When you need to provide a status update for an already-published alert, visit the alerts menu on the dashboard and choose the alert you would like to update.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose &#8220;<strong>Add Alert Update<\/strong>,&#8221; which will allow you to add another labeled item (i.e., with a label like &#8220;Monitoring&#8221;, &#8220;In Progress&#8221;, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>Enter &#8220;<strong>Time of Update<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Enter the &#8220;<strong>Status Type<\/strong>,&#8221; choosing from the various options and trying to stay within these general guidelines:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; If an alert has not been resolved, choose <strong>&#8220;<\/strong><strong>Update&#8221;, &#8220;Monitoring&#8221;, &#8220;In Progress&#8221; or &#8220;Investigating&#8221;<\/strong> depending on the status.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; For outages or other unexpected issues, use &#8220;<strong>Resolved&#8221;<\/strong> for the last alert item when the issue has been resolved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; If a &#8220;<strong>Resolved&#8221;<\/strong> issue occurs again, within a short time after being resolved, change the existing &#8220;Resolved&#8221; status to &#8220;<strong>Update&#8221;<\/strong> when you provide additional information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8211; For planned maintenances, use &#8220;<strong>Completed&#8221;<\/strong> for the last alert item instead.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter &#8220;<strong>Description<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Publish when finalized.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Current Alerts and Notices vs. Past Alerts and Notices<\/strong><br \/>\nIf an Alert\u2019s latest <strong>Update Status Type<\/strong> is set at <strong>Identified<\/strong>, <strong>Monitoring<\/strong>, <strong>In Progress<\/strong>, <strong>Investigating<\/strong>, <strong>Update<\/strong>, or <strong>Scheduled<\/strong>, the alert will remain in the <strong>Current Alerts and Notices<\/strong> section regardless of the <strong>Time of Update<\/strong> of the latest Alert update.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like an Alert to remain in the <strong>Current Alerts and Notices<\/strong> section no matter what the latest <strong>Time of Update<\/strong> or <strong>Update Status Type<\/strong> is, toggle the <strong>Persistent Alert<\/strong> (found on the right column) to On.<\/p>\n<p>Once the status type is changed to <strong>Notification<\/strong>, <strong>Resolved<\/strong>, or <strong>Completed<\/strong>, the alert will appear in the <strong>Past Alerts and Notices<\/strong> section within 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adding major alerts to Rutgers IT website homepage<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To make the Alert bell turn red on the homepage<\/strong> indicating that there is a significant alert, visit Theme Settings on the left side navigation bar on the main\u00a0IT site\u2019s dashboard. Choose the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> tab and then toggle the <strong>Alert Bell<\/strong> switch to <strong>On<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To activate a site-wide banner on the top of the site on all pages<\/strong>, visit Theme Settings on the lefthand navigation bar for main IT site\u2019s dashboard. Choose the Alerts tab and then follow these instructions:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Toggle the <strong>Global Alert<\/strong> switch to <strong>Enable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the URL of the Alert you need to link to.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Messages under Alerts landing page and individual pages<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The standing messages on these pages should be revised only by the IT communications team.
