See below for more details.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Office of Information Technology encourages all Rutgers community members to exercise caution and avoid scams and other cyber threats. If you are working at the university or working\/learning remotely, it is important to report any suspected scams, breaches, or theft to the appropriate parties.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"incident\"><strong>Recognizing an information security incident<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>An information security incident is any activity which may involve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Misuse of information technology resources, compromise of integrity or loss of confidentiality of university data<\/li>\n<li>Threats to availability of resources or misrepresentations of identity using information technology resources<\/li>\n<li>Loss or theft of a university-owned computer (or a device storing university data)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Suspected abuse\/misuse of a university system<\/li>\n<li>Spam or phishing that originates from or is relayed through university systems<\/li>\n<li>Use of university information technology resources to hack into any non-university computer system<\/li>\n<li>Unauthorized use of accounts to access university systems or information<\/li>\n<li>Suspected policy violation as described in the university\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/policies.rutgers.edu\/B.aspx?BookId=12017&amp;PageId=459368&amp;Search=acceptable%20use%20policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acceptable Use Policy for Information Technology Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Violations of any state, federal, or local law or regulation using university information technology resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"report\"><strong>How do I report an information security incident?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>All members of the Rutgers University community are expected to immediately report suspected scams, abuses, unauthorized disclosure, loss or theft of restricted or internal data, as well as loss or theft of computing equipment, to their management, dean or department chair, IT leadership, and the Rutgers University Computing Incident Response Team (RU CIRT) at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu\">abuse@rutgers.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a list of detailed actions you should take:<\/p>\n<div id=\"footable_parent_1060\"\n         class=\" footable_parent ninja_table_wrapper loading_ninja_table wp_table_data_press_parent semantic_ui \">\n                <table data-ninja_table_instance=\"ninja_table_instance_0\" data-footable_id=\"1060\" data-filter-delay=\"1000\" aria-label=\"reporting-suspected-scams-duplicate\"            id=\"footable_1060\"\n           data-unique_identifier=\"ninja_table_unique_id_2380283354_1060\"\n           class=\" foo-table ninja_footable foo_table_1060 ninja_table_unique_id_2380283354_1060 ui table  ninja_search_right nt_type_legacy_table selectable celled striped  footable-paging-right ninja_table_search_disabled ninja_table_pro\">\n                <colgroup>\n                            <col class=\"ninja_column_0 \">\n                            <col class=\"ninja_column_1 \">\n                    <\/colgroup>\n        <thead>\n<tr class=\"footable-header\">\n                                        <th scope=\"col\"  class=\"ninja_column_0 ninja_clmn_nm_type_of_cyber_threat \">Type of Cyber Threat<\/th><th scope=\"col\"  class=\"ninja_column_1 ninja_clmn_nm_actions \">Actions<\/th><\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n\n        <tr data-row_id=\"1\" class=\"ninja_table_row_0 nt_row_id_1\">\n            <td>For suspected phishing or other email scams:<\/td><td><ul>\n<li>Send an email to <a href=\"mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu\">abuse@rutgers.edu<\/a> and include the <a href=\"https:\/\/ithelp.rutgers.edu\/sp?id=kb_article&amp;sysparm_article=KB0012933\">full email headers<\/a> with your report or forward as an <a href=\"https:\/\/ithelp.rutgers.edu\/sp?id=kb_article&amp;sysparm_article=KB0012923\">attachment<\/a>. (Learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/mail\/answer\/9261412?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=7280290\">Gmail Help Tips<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Contact your local <a href=\"\/help-support\">Help Desk.<\/a><a href=\"mailto:help@camden.rutgers.edu\"><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/td>        <\/tr>\n            <tr data-row_id=\"2\" class=\"ninja_table_row_1 nt_row_id_2\">\n            <td>For password compromises \u2013 i.e. a malicious link that redirects you to a fake login page \u2013 do the following:<\/td><td><ul>\n<li>Change your password immediately at <a href=\"https:\/\/netid.rutgers.edu\/index.htm\">NetID management<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Contact the Help Desk for assistance (833-OIT-HELP\/<a href=\"mailto:help@oit.rutgers.edu\">help@oit.rutgers.edu<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Send email containing malicious link as an <a href=\"https:\/\/ithelp.rutgers.edu\/sp?id=kb_article&#038;sysparm_article=KB0012923\">attachment<\/a> to <a href=\"mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu\">abuse@rutgers.edu<\/a> so that it can be blocked from the network.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/td>        <\/tr>\n            <tr data-row_id=\"3\" class=\"ninja_table_row_2 nt_row_id_3\">\n            <td>All other abuses, unauthorized disclosures or access, loss or theft of restricted or internal data should be reported as follows:<\/td><td>Send an email to<a href=\"mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu\"> abuse@rutgers.edu<\/a> and include the following information in the report:\n<ul>\n<li>Description of the information security incident along with any relevant <a href=\"https:\/\/ithelp.rutgers.edu\/sp?id=kb_article&amp;sysparm_article=KB0012923\">attachments<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Date and time of the event (including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/time\/zones\/\">time zone<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Provide supporting evidence such as system logs or <a href=\"https:\/\/ithelp.rutgers.edu\/sp?id=kb_article&amp;sysparm_article=KB0012933\">full email headers<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A general description of the type of data (sensitive information such as Social security numbers, credit card numbers, protected health information (PHI) or other confidential data)<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/td>        <\/tr>\n    <\/tbody><!--ninja_tobody_rendering_done-->\n    <\/table>\n    \n    \n    \n<\/div>\n\n<h3><strong>What if PHI (Protected Health Information) is involved in the incident?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If PHI (Protected Health Information) or the likelihood of PHI data is involved, contact University Ethics and Compliance at 1-833-783-8442, or visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uec.rutgers.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University Ethics and Compliance<\/a>\u00a0to report your concern.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"theft\"><\/a><strong>What if the incident involves theft of physical assets, a possible crime, or harassment?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/ipo.rutgers.edu\/publicsafety\/rupd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University Police<\/a>\u00a0or your local police department to report loss or theft of physical assets or if you suspect that the incident might constitute a crime or involve harassment.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not delete offending email from your computer until you have contacted your local police and they instruct you to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Preserve logs or other evidence.<\/li>\n<li>Contact your nearest RUPD division:\n<ul>\n<li>RUPD \u2013 New Brunswick 732-932-7211<\/li>\n<li>RUPD \u2013 Camden 856-225-6111<\/li>\n<li>RUPD \u2013 Newark 973-353-5111<\/li>\n<li>RUPD \u2013 RBHS at Newark 973-972-4491<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"personal\"><\/a><strong>How do I report issues with personal accounts and services?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Contact your service provider for guidance and next steps.<\/li>\n<li>Change all compromised account passwords and use multi-factor authentication if available.\n<ul>\n<li>If passwords have been reused across several accounts\/services, then reset all affected passwords (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Note that social media accounts can be utilized to authenticate into other systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Report suspected scams to the applicable industry or regulatory agency.
