Rutgers Minimum Digital Accessibility Standards


Rutgers is committed to ensuring that everyone in our Rutgers family is able to access all of the tools, resources, and experiences Rutgers has to offer. We remain actively engaged with our campus partners, both internally and externally, to ensure we remain in compliance with all federal, state and local laws. This includes but is not limited to: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

These standards operate in conjunction with the following policies here at Rutgers:

Web Standards

All web content, must pass the minimum threshold of the WCAG 2.0 AA. More information on the W3Cs Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, can be found on their site.

Additional Training is offered through OITA, and can be booked via appointment. Please email accessibility-support@rutgers.edu to set up a training.

Document Standards

PDFs should conform to PDF/UA standards (Universal Accessibility)

All other file types should conform to the above WCAG standard, where applicable. While WCAG was written for content on the web specifically, its tenets and foundations can be applied across all document types.
