Information Technology (OIT) provides access to generative AI tools with protections for use in university work. The tools licensed by Rutgers include security and privacy safeguards for appropriate use at the university. By using the Rutgers-approved versions of these tools, your data will not be used to train the models underlying the tools. To protect university data and ensure appropriate use, only Rutgers-approved AI tools should be used at the university. You can <a href=\"\/ai\/#ai-assistants\">view a list of available tools provided by OIT.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><i class=\"fa-regular fa-head-side-gear\" style=\"color: #cc0033;\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\u00a0<strong>Ensure academic integrity when using AI<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>At Rutgers, guidance on the appropriate use of AI tools in academic settings will typically vary depending on the discipline, course, and\/or instructor. Faculty should consider providing guidance to students on the use of AI to support learning and coursework, and students are encouraged to review course materials and speak with their instructors to understand any specific expectations related to AI. Though AI tools are widely available to students, they should not be considered permissible for coursework unless clearly stated or communicated by instructors. Students are responsible for understanding and abiding by their program and instructors\u2019 guidance or rules on the use of AI. As noted in <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.rutgers.edu\/B.aspx?BookId=11914&amp;PageId=459231&amp;Search=academic%20integrity\">Rutgers Academic Integrity Policy 10.2.13<\/a>, the principles of academic integrity require that students ensure that coursework be \u201cthe student\u2019s own and created without the aid of impermissible technologies, materials, or collaborations.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><i class=\"fa-regular fa-shield-check\" style=\"color: #cc0033;\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i>\u00a0<strong>Protect confidential data<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Confidential information, Protected Health Information (PHI), and other proprietary Rutgers information may not be appropriate for use in AI applications and systems.
